How to use it
- CALL CQ picks WSJT-X's Tx 6 and switches the transmitter on. WSJT-X builds the message from your own callsign and grid.
- Tap a station in Band or Rx to answer it. That transmits too — a tap means "work them". Only CQ and QRZ calls can be answered this way; WSJT-X ignores a reply to anything else, and Auto Seq is already answering stations calling you.
- STOP TX stops the transmission and switches the transmitter off. It is the largest button here on purpose.
- The log box confirms itself. WSJT-X will not report a contact until its Log QSO dialog is accepted, and nobody is in the shack to accept it — so the agent does, within about a second, and the contact goes to QSL World and QRZ.
The bar under the header is the fifteen-second FT8 period. It fills through the slot, turns orange in the one your station transmits in and red while it is transmitting — so you can see whether a tap will make the next period or the one after.
If nobody is watching
You are the control operator for everything this rig puts on the air. If this page is closed and nothing else is watching, the agent halts the transmission and switches WSJT-X off rather than letting it key every period into an empty room.
FT8 Hero controls a station running WSJT-X from anywhere — the shack machine relays what it hears and takes back what you tap, so the radio stays where it is and you do not have to.
